Arnona Discount

What Is Arnona?

All cities and towns in Israel charge Arnona, which is a municipal property tax. Arnona is payable whether you are renting or own your own property. Olim are customarily granted a discount of 70 – 90% (for up to 100 sqm.) on Arnona payments.

Ktinim Chozrim are not eligible for this benefit.

How Long Is The Arnona Discount For?

Olim must use the discount during one of the first two years after Aliyah, and only for for one 12-month period.

Who Pays The Arnona?

All cities and towns in Israel charge Arnona (property tax). Usually, rental agreements do not include the Arnona; however, it can be negotiated to be included. Arnona payments are calculated based on the size of your home.

Note

There are some municipalities that have a policy: if you don’t pay your Arnona bill for a given year, they will cancel your eligibility for the discount.

Registering For Arnona

When you move to a new home, you must transfer the Arnona bill into your name so that you do not pay for the previous owner or tenant’s debts. In order to transfer the bill, you have to visit your municipality with the following documents:

  1. Contract (lease or ownership)

  2. Most recent Arnona bill (in order to identify your property)

  3. Teudat Zehut

  4. Teudat Oleh/Teudat Zakaut

  5. Bank account information
